A Little About Angus Genetic Principles
For an Angus Breeder to get a grasp on breeding management, it is
almost imperative that he learn some basic angus genetic principles.
Learning how genetics can affect economically important traits
of Angus Cattle, or any other breed of beef cattle, can help a cattle farmer in making wise selection
decisions when picking his seedstock animals. The goal should be to learn which traits can be altered through
breeding management and which traits should be altered by other management techniques.
The Agriculture Universities have done research and produced many
publications to help you in this area. Although the publications may not be breed specific the information will
apply to most all beef cattle breeds. One of those publications titled simply "Genetic Principles" by Darrh Bullok, University of Kentucky is available here as a PDF file.
